Lucy O’Hora graduated with a BA (Hons) English & History in 2024. She is pursuing her MA in English at the University of Limerick, whilst also working as a Social Media and Marketing Manager with multiple sporting bodies in Ireland (FAI, CUFAI, Treaty United & University of Limerick).
Teaching Opportunities
Upon choosing my Undergraduate Degree, I thought I would become a secondary school teacher, though I went down a different career path; the English and History program at Carlow College offers diverse modules that meet the teaching council requirements. It allowed me to study what I wanted without having to go to an institution in vastly populated areas outside my budget for rent, for example.
Expanding your Skillset
Throughout my Undergraduate Degree, I have developed and refined many transferable skills throughout the program, which I employ frequently. Delivering presentations, conducting research, fact-checking information, working within a group, and taking on board constructive criticism and how that can be utilized to improve my standard of work.
Supportive Environment
As a young person who struggled with a learning difficulty, that was never an obstacle to me throughout my degree. When any confusion with coursework did arise, the lecturers and staff of Carlow College could not do enough to help me. The environment around campus is unlike any other institution I have been in. Smiles, friendly faces, and an energetic space are what everyone will experience. Once they walk through the door, they will enter a close-knit community.
