Your Personal Library Account
Your personal library account is your individual online profile with the library and is a tool for managing your library materials. It allows you to:
- View current loans – see what you have borrowed
- Renew items online – extend your loan period
- Reserve items online – hold books that are on loan
- View borrowing history – see your past loans
To log in to your personal library account, you will need:
- Your reader code (student number)
- Your 4-digit PIN
Your unique PIN is issued by Library staff. Please call to the Library Desk or email the library team at librarycc@carlowcollege.ie to obtain or reset your PIN.
All current Carlow College learners and staff have to access Carlow College Library services; however, this access is contingent on following Library regulations. As a Carlow College Library user, you must have a current Learner Identity Card. Your ID card must be produced if requested by a member of the Library staff.
We also welcome Learners or Researchers visiting from other Third Level Institutes; any persons engaged in scholarly research; and, members of the public requiring access to Library material not available to them in any other library. See External Readers.
Students must go to the Library Desk to borrow, renew and return items or you can use the Self-Service Desk located opposite the library desk.
Books can be renewed online, over the phone, at the Library Desk/Self-service desk or via email. If another student places a reservation on an item, or your account accrues a fine then you cannot renew your items. (Note: all renewed books are subject to recall at any time if requested by another user).
Students will be charged €1 per borrowed item per day for overdue items. Students with overdue items on their accounts will be blocked from borrowing further items until the fine is paid and books returned.Â
To find items from your reading list you:
- Type your title, author’s name or key word into the search box on Library Catalogue.
- From the results, take note of the class number, as this is where you will find the book in the library. The numbering system the Library uses is called Dewey Decimal Classification. Each book is assigned a Dewey class number that identifies its subject matter. This number is found on the spine of the book. The books are arranged on the shelves in numerical order.
- Search the library catalogue to find the book and class number.
