Gemma Gunning graduated with a BA (Hons) in Arts & Humanities in 2024.
Critical-Thinking Skills
As I am interested in the Arts sector, and becoming involved in either Museum work or Library work, my degree has prepared me for my future career through educating me in a variety of subject matters that are central to these workplaces, such as different historical time periods or knowledge of a variety of literature. My degree has also improved my writing, critical thinking, comprehension, and leadership skills, while also providing me with knowledge of research engines and software servers such as Microsoft Office, which are desired skills in the modern workplace.
Wide Range of Subjects
I deeply enjoyed the variety of subjects available in the Arts and Humanities course, such as English, History, Psychology, Theology and Philosophy, and the range of classes and topics available in each subject. For example, through studying English, I was also able to study Media, Theatre, and Literature, which I enjoyed thoroughly. I also appreciated the smaller sized lectures, as it allowed me to make friends more easily and to comfortably approach lecturers with queries or issues regarding my work.
Teamwork
Carlow College is a small, welcoming educational environment which values the individual as a learner. It provides a wide variety of courses that are taught at a high standard, and it encourages the development of friendships and teamwork amongst students. The variety of courses also provides the learner with a diverse skill set that will help in one’s future career path or with their further education.
