Dr Dawn Higgins is a lecturer in Carlow College, where she teaches on the BA Psychology programme. She completed her PhD in Maynooth in 2024, examining dementia in the Travelling Community of Ireland in 2024, which was completed in conjunction with Exchange House Ireland National Travellers Service, and the Cork Traveller Visibility Group. Her PhD was funded by both the Irish Research Council, and John and Pat Hume awards.
She graduated from UCD with a Masters in Psychological Science in 2018, where she examined older adults’ experience of accessing suicide prevention services.
She has published articles and presented her research findings at conferences in Ireland and America.
She has previously taught at UCD, Maynooth University and City Colleges, as well as supervising research in DCU. She also worked as a research manager in both UCD and Trinity College, on several large international interdisciplinary projects aimed at reducing effects of dementia in specific populations, and is active in research projects with various partner organisations.
Research interests include: applied research in all settings; overlooked, neglected and minority populations; neuropsychology and psychological assessments; healthy aging; and the intersection of research and policy.
Active member of the Psychological Society of Ireland, serving as Events Officer for the Early Graduate Group, and as a committee member for the Science and Public Policy committee.
Also a member of the International neuropsychological Association and the Dementia and Neurodegenerative Network of Ireland.

Dr Dawn Higgins completed her BA(Hons) in Psychology in Maynooth University in 2017, followed by her MPsychSci (Masters of Psychological Science) from UCD in 2018. She completed her PhD in Psychology in Maynooth University in 2024, and also holds a Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning from Maynooth University.
