This presentation will focus on contemporary Native American poets and musicians whose work counters and talks back to the misrepresentations, untruths, and stereotypes that prevail about their nations, history, and cultures. We will examine several poems and listen to songs that exemplify how language and cultural representation play a fundamental role in the struggle of indigenous peoples for land, treaty rights, survival and renewal.
