Description
Course Overview
The Certificate in Contemporary Politics and Public Policy provides an in-depth exploration of how public policy shapes our lives and the varied forms politics takes across local, national, and transnational levels. This course introduces key concepts and analytical frameworks essential for understanding political dynamics, including how public life is organized, who participates in decision-making, under what conditions, and with what level of influence.
A defining aspect of this course is its hands-on approach. In addition to developing research skills in politics and policy, the module emphasizes critical media literacy, empowering learners to actively engage with current events. Through class discussions and a research-based assignment, students will refine their ability to construct rigorous oral and written arguments. The course encourages a critical perspective, challenging commonly held beliefs, considering alternative explanations for significant social and political developments, and supporting conclusions with well-researched evidence. Over the course of 12 weeks, learners will strengthen their analytical and debating skills, preparing them for active roles in political and policy-focused careers.
