Course Overview
The Certificate in Child Developmental Psychology offers the chance to study the psychological needs of infants, toddlers and young children and how the family and other social contexts that influence the development of these individuals. It is targeted towards learners who need flexible options for upskilling and CPD such as teachers, counsellors, medical professionals, social workers, educators and childcare workers.

Course Practicalities
Course will be delivered on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 9.30pm synchronously online for 12 weeks commencing 21st January 2025. Scheduled day may be subject to change.
Course Content
The Certificate in Child Developmental Psychology examines the development of the child from conception to infancy, toddlerhood and early childhood. Over the course of 12 weeks, learners explore how the child can be viewed in the microcosm of the home and immediate family, the mesosystem of schools, church and community, and the macro system of culture, religion, economics and education.
The course covers key topics such as:
- The History of child developmental psychology
- Developmental Processes and Periods
- Foetal Development
- Theories of Development
- The Developing Individual: The nature of Moral Development
- Developing in Context: The Child in the Family
- Development in Context: The Child in the Peer Group
- Development in Context: The Child in Society
Assessment
Learners will be assessed via a 1,500 word Essay (40%), and a final take home exam (60%).
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be resident in Ireland and at least 18 years old at course commencement.
