Examinations

The academic year is semesterised with examinations held in Semester One (December) and Semester Two (May) with repeat/deferred examinations in August.

The role of the Examinations Office is to provide clear guidelines on the operation of the exams system to all relevant learners and staff. Its purpose is to ensure that the planning and management of exams is conducted efficiently and in the best interests of candidates.  The range of procedures and guidelines accessed through this page underpin the secure, transparent and equitable management of learner assessment in Carlow College and facilitate the integrity of the College’s assessment process.

The conducting of exams in Carlow College is in accordance with the QQI document: Statutory Quality Assurance Guidelines for use by all Providers April 2016.

Quick Student Guide to Examinations

  • Arrive on time for your exam, at least 10 minutes before the exam commences.
  • Know the correct location of your exam.
  • Bring your valid student id card to all exams.
  • If your mobile phone or electronic device sounds during an exam, you will forfeit that exam. Personal devices must be switched off and placed under your chair or left outside of the exam hall.

Students registered with the Academic Resource Office for examination accommodations will receive a confirmation email from the office (academicresource@carlowcollege.ie) of their examination arrangements prior to the commencement of examinations.
