How to get here

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s campus is located in the heart of Carlow town, just a 2 minute walk from Tullow Street. Carlow is one of Ireland’s largest inland towns located in the sunny south-east on the banks of the River Barrow where students can experience exhilarating outdoor adventure, vibrant nightlife and a rich cultural heritage. Carlow is well serviced by road and rail links to major Irish cities and towns, and is approximately 80km from Dublin Airport.

By Car

Carlow is on the main Dublin to Waterford M9 route, approximately 1.5 hours drive from Dublin and an hour from Waterford. Our pedestrian entrance is located on College Street and our car-parking entrance is located on Old Dublin Road. The College has ample car-parking on campus and students can purchase a annual parking pass for €30.

By Bus / Coach

Local Bus Service

Carlow Town Bus Service has 2 routes, running 7 days a week, 18 hours a day. Buses run every ½ hour in both directions.

Bus Route CW1 goes from Merck, Sharp and Dohme (MSD) on the Dublin Road to Tyndall College on the Kilkenny Rd, serving SETU and surrounding estates.

Bus Route CW2 goes from Wexford Road Business Park (Ken Black’s) to Barrow Valley Retail Park which has stores such as Dunnes, To Go and Mr Price. There’s also 2 gyms there and Dome Bowling.

The 2 routes interchange at multiple locations, such as the Coach Park, the Fire Station and Sandhills estate, beside SuperValu (CW1) and St Laurence O’Toole’s (CW2)

A standard single journey on either route is €1.60 for adults and 90c for children, students and young adults under 24 regardless of distance travelled. Leap cards and Free Travel passes are only accepted, cash, or debit/credit cards can’t be used.

By Train

Carlow railway station is approx. 5 minutes (on foot) from the College. There are direct links between Carlow, Dublin and Waterford. The journey from Carlow to Dublin takes approx. 1 hour and there are also direct links to Waterford and other counties.

Travelling from Overseas

Students and visitors coming to Carlow College, St Patrick’s from overseas can fly into the nearest international airport, Dublin Airport, which is just over an hour’s drive from Carlow town. 

There are a number of Airport bus services that will transport you directly to Carlow.
