Carlow College, St. Patrick’s names first female College Vice President

Fr. Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, College President congratulates Ms. Helen Maher on her being named College Vice President.

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, for the first time since its establishment in 1782 has its first non-cleric and first female College Vice President.  Helen Maher, a staff member since 2010 was named College Vice President by Fr Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, College President at a Staff Gathering in the College on Thursday, 29 August 2019.  She joins Fr. John McEvoy, who also serves as a College Vice President, in assisting the President in the day to day governance of the College and advancing the College’s Strategic Plan.

Helen Maher brings to the position a wealth of experience and is currently Co-ordinator for Strategic Projects and Collaborative Engagement and is  the Programme Director for the Social, Political  and Community Studies Programme. She is a member of the College’s Academic Council and the Management Board. In addition, she is a member of the President’s Working Group on Systems Positioning and has presented to the Governing Body on the College’s ongoing work with the Department of Education and Skills and the Higher Education Authority.
