Carlow College signs up to Carlow Intercultural Charter

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s it pleased to announce the signing of the Carlow Intercultural Charter.

The Charter is a statement of County Carlow’s commitment to foster and sustain a vibrant, inclusive and intercultural society in which all residents have a sense of belonging and are valued equally, regardless of their colour, ethnicity, nationality, creed or culture.

Pledging support of the charter means working actively towards:

  • Celebrating Diversity (a proven record of acknowledging diversity and organising events for ‘key awareness days’)
  • Combating Racism (acknowledging that racism exists, challenging racism and promoting respect for all ethnicities)
  • Value and Respect for All (ensuring that people are treated equally, regardless of place of origin, ethnicity, heritage, religious belief etc)
  • Information and Access to Services (production of leaflets and key information in different languages)
  • Reaching out to Include Minorities to be Active in Community and Political life (supporting the full participation of migrants and migrant groups)
  • Employment and Pathways to Work (supporting the provision of training and employment opportunities that will enable migrants fully develop in their careers)

Speaking of the Charter, Chair of Carlow College’s Athena SWAN SAT Team, Fiona McGuill said: “Carlow College, St Patrick’s is delighted to pledge its support to the County Carlow Migrant Strategy and Carlow’s Intercultural Charter 2020-2024.”

“The College has recently established a Civic Engagement Hub, one of whose commitments is to foster a sense of civic responsibility, including engagement with diverse intercultural groups, minority groups, businesses, industries, and other organisations that share similar values and objectives.  Pledging its support to Carlow’s Intercultural Charter is just one example of this commitment”, continued Fiona.
