Carlow College raised the Ukrainian flag and the International Women’s Day flag this afternoon in solidarity with the Ukrainian community.

Members of the Ukrainian community locally attended the event and the Ukrainian flag was raised by Ukranian national, Svitlana Snigur.

Before the flag raising, Lecturer in Community Development on our Social, Political & Community Studies degree, Stephanie McDermott, delivered a public lecture on the eve of International Women’s Day titled Fighting oppression and injustice with Allyship. The lecture was the first event of a week-long celebration of International Women’s Day in the College.

A flag raising ceremony was held after the public lecture with Carlow-Kilkenny TD, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor raised the International Women’s Day flag followed by the raising of the Ukrainian flag.
