Carlow College, St Patrick’s is set to re-launch its popular Annual Book Fair after COVID and will be hosting its first Book Fair in three years on Wednesday 8th February from 10am to 5pm. This is a free public event, taking place in the main foyer and corridors of Carlow College.
With its two libraries, Carlow College, St Patrick’s has a long history of book collecting. The historic Keeffe Library, named after Bishop James Keeffe who founded the College, holds books dating from the eighteenth century. Later, President Mary McAleese officially opened the Brophy Library in 2006. Housed within the old Sacred Heart Chapel, which was originally built in 1888 and is named after the former College president and great book lover Fr P.J. Brophy. The eye-catching and much-admired facility will be open to the public on the day of the Book Fair.
The College Librarians have been busy sorting through the College’s book collection and all surplus stocks will be available to the public for purchase at reasonable prices.
Speaking about the event, Dr Thomas Mc Grath, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, commented: “A third level college is all about books. Over the centuries, we have acquired many books, which we no longer need. These are across the fields of arts and humanities, fiction and non-fiction. We will be selling spare copies and duplicates from our collections at the book fair, with prices starting at €2. We will be welcoming book sellers on the day which will assist in making this a great occasion for all book lovers.”
