On Friday 15 March Carlow College, St Patrick’s and I.T. Carlow held the fourth event of the ‘Here Together: Reflections on the South-East’ project. The event saw 60 participants visit ancient and contemporary sacred sites around County Carlow over the course of the day. In exploring the construction and use of these religious spaces the group discussed their celebration as sacred sites along with their place in contemporary culture. Architecture of Beliefs and Rhythms of Ritual is the Theology component of the project, conceptualized and brought to life by Carlow College Theology Lecturer Michael Sherman.
The day was a collaboration between staff & students across the Arts and Humanities degree programme in Carlow College with staff & students from the TV and Media Productions degree programme in IT Carlow. Renowned Cork based poet and writer James Harpur, local Carlow artist Bridget Flannery, along with lectures from both institutions contributed at the sites throughout the day. This brought together word, vision, and place in an imaginative and creative style. These contributions were recorded throughout the day and will be compiled for podcast by IT Carlow students.
The sites visited included: Cranavane Holy Well, Kildavin; Ballinacarrig Cemetery, Carlow; Romanesque Doorway in Killeshin, and the P.J. Brophy Library in Carlow College.
