Carlow College proudly announces the graduation of the first cohort from its MA in Irish Regional History programme, awarded by the South East Technological University (SETU) at is Conferring Ceremony on Thursday, 11th January. A momentous occasion for both the institution and its students, this milestone reflects Carlow College’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ireland.
The MA in Irish Regional History, launched in 2021, has seen its inaugural graduates successfully complete this unique postgraduate programme, showcasing their dedication to advancing their understanding of Ireland’s diverse regional histories. The graduates have delved into an array of topics, exploring the multifaceted narratives that have shaped various regions across the country.
Dr Elaine Callinan, Programme Director for the MA in Irish Regional History, expressed pride in the inaugural class, stating, “We are thrilled to witness the first graduates of the MA in Irish Regional History programme. Their scholarly contributions and dedication to understanding the intricacies of Ireland’s regional history have set a high standard for future cohorts. We look forward to seeing the impact these graduates will make in the field and beyond.”
Class representative and new graduate, Amy O’Riordan, said “the part-time programme was challenging but designed to support the development of new skills, particularly around archival work and oral history. On behalf of the students, I’d like that thank Carlow College and the History team for their support over the past two years.”
Carlow College Assistant Registrar and History Lecturer, Dr Margaret Murphy, was also in attendance at the conferring ceremony, stating “this is a very proud day for Carlow College to see the first cohort of graduates from the MA in Irish Regional History, many of whom are already making significant contributions to the study and exploration of Irish history.”
The MA in Irish Regional History is designed and delivered by Carlow College and is validated and awarded by SETU.
