Carlow College Celebrates First Psychology Graduates

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is proud to announce the graduation of the first cohort of students from its BA (Hons) in Psychology programme. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the College and its students, with 23 graduates receiving their degrees following the successful completion of the PSI-accredited course.

Among the graduates was Carlow native and current SU President, Alison Whelehan. Speaking about her time studying at Carlow College, Alison said; “I really enjoyed my time here as a student and I now love being part of the staff. The lecturers and support staff are what really made me cherish my time here and I absolutely adored studying psychology.”

Launched in 2022, the BA (Hons) in Psychology was developed to meet growing demand for high-quality undergraduate education in psychological science. The programme received accreditation from the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) in 2024, ensuring that graduates meet the highest standards of academic and professional excellence.

Dr Candice Baldwin, Programme Director for Psychology, expressed her pride in the graduating class: “This cohort has demonstrated exceptional resilience, curiosity, and commitment to the discipline of psychology. They have not only met the rigorous academic standards of the programme but have also contributed meaningfully to the College community. It has been a privilege to witness their growth and success.”

Dr Margaret Murphy, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, also shared her congratulations: “The graduation of our first Psychology cohort is a landmark moment for Carlow College. These students are pioneers, and their achievements reflect the strength of our academic vision and the dedication of our faculty. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the field and beyond.”

The College extends its warmest congratulations to the Class of 2025 and looks forward to supporting future cohorts as the programme continues to grow.
