Dr Amelia Fleming

Biography

Dr Amelia Fleming is a lecturer at Carlow College where she teaches on the Humanities, Social Care and Social, Political and Community Studies degree programmes. She teaches courses in Biblical Studies, Fundamental Moral Theology and the Theology of Social Justice. Amelia also teaches the Academic and Digital Skills stage 1 module. She is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, and the European Association of Biblical Studies.

She has been a visiting lecturer at the Milltown Institute; on-line tutor and tutorial facilitator in the Priory Institute; and tutor in the Pontifical University, Maynooth; and regularly is an extern examiner for the Masters Degrees in Theology / Pastoral Studies, Pontifical University, Maynooth. Amelia was also a member of the Irish Bishops’ Committee for the Family and Children’s ad hoc group in 2009.

Amelia has been a regular Book Review contributor to Doctrine & Life and The Furrow and article peer-reviewer for the Irish Theological Quarterly.

Research Interest

Amelia’s current area of interest is in the contemporary interdisciplinary critical and theological interpretations of the Bible; and especially the place of women in scripture.

Qualifications

Amelia has a Maj/Min primary degree in Theology and English (1998) and completed her PhD in 2002 on the Theology of Conscience and John Henry Newman, both in the Pontifical University, Maynooth.
