Historic collaborative agreement for joint higher education and research initiatives

Institute of Technology Carlow and Carlow College, St. Patrick’s sign historic collaborative agreement for joint higher education and research initiatives.

The Presidents of Institute of Technology Carlow and Carlow College, St. Patrick’s are delighted to announce the formal signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the aim of strengthening their existing relationship. Carlow town benefits from having two higher education institutions and this agreement recognises and strengthens the ongoing partnership between the two institutions and their shared interests. The National Strategy for Higher Education encourages and supports collaboration between and across all higher education institutions and particularly those in geographic proximity. The MoA specifically recognises the synergy and opportunities in the applied and academic fields of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the significant potential to bring added value and benefit for learners.

In line with our respective organisational strategic aims and objectives, the MoA outlines how both institutions will work together to maximise the benefits from our mutual interests in translating areas of existing collaboration into practice. The MoA specifies areas of collaboration as including institutional alignment; collaborative provision; academic collaboration; research; learner engagement; facilities and resources and community engagement.

The President of the Institute of Technology Carlow, Dr. Patricia Mulcahy and the President of Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, Fr. Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, both warmly welcomed the signing of the MoA and look forward to both institutions working together for the benefit of the region.

Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, President of Carlow College, St. Patrick’s said “With this Memorandum of Agreement we seek to build on our shared interests and explore the added value both our Institutions bring to the Higher Education sector. This will support the continuing enhancement of the provision of a first class educational experience for our current and prospective students”.

Dr Patricia Mulcahy, President of Institute of Technology Carlow said “This agreement builds upon existing relationships across a range of activities, putting in place a framework that will support the future strategic development of our collaborative initiatives for the benefit of our many outstanding students, graduates, faculty, staff and stakeholders.  We are excited about what we can achieve together.”
