Carlow College Celebrates Postgraduate Graduates at SETU Conferring Ceremony

MA in Irish Regional History Graduates 2025

Carlow College, St Patrick’s proudly celebrated the graduation of its postgraduate students from the MA in Irish Regional History and the Higher Diploma in Politics & Society at the South East Technological University (SETU) Conferring Ceremony held on Wednesday, 29th October.

Five students graduated from the MA in Irish Regional History and eleven students from the Higher Diploma in Politics & Society. These innovative programmes, designed and delivered by Carlow College, are validated and awarded by SETU, reflecting a strong partnership between the two institutions in advancing regional education and scholarship.

Graduates from both programmes were honoured for their academic achievements and contributions to the study of Irish history and contemporary political thought. The MA in Irish Regional History continues to foster deep engagement with local and national narratives, while the Higher Diploma in Politics & Society equips students with critical tools to understand and influence civic life in Ireland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Elaine Callinan, Programme Director for the MA in Irish Regional History said: “This cohort has demonstrated exceptional dedication to uncovering and interpreting the rich tapestry of Ireland’s regional past. Their work not only contributes to historical scholarship but also strengthens community identity and cultural understanding. “

Furthermore, Steph Hanlon, Programme Director for the Higher Diploma in Politics & Society, added: “Our graduates leave with a robust foundation in political theory and social analysis, ready to engage meaningfully in educational, civic, and policy-making arenas. Their insights and commitment to social justice are inspiring.”

Carlow College Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, Dr Margaret Murphy, congratulated the College’s newest graduates, stating: “We are immensely proud of our postgraduate students and their achievements. These programmes reflect the College’s commitment to academic excellence, critical inquiry, and community engagement. Today’s graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to society, and we look forward to seeing the impact they will have in their chosen fields.”
