A huge congratulations to Dr Margaret Murphy, Carlow College Assistant Registrar for Academic Affairs & Lecturer in Medieval History, who was elected the 16th President of the Group for the Study of Irish Historic Settlement at their conference in Donegal last weekend. The Group, which has been in existence for 53 years, brings together historians, archaeologists, historical geographers and architects. Margaret is the fifth woman to hold the role, following in the esteemed footsteps of Professor Margaret MacCurtain, Professor Anngret Simms, Dr Bernadette Cunningham and Dr Geraldine Stout.
The aim of The Group is to serve as an interdisciplinary forum whereby Irish settlement can be studied through discussion and research. The Group does this through its annual conference and field trips, its thematic conferences, its books and other publications, and through these webpages.
