As part of the South East Science Festival, Carlow College is hosting a lecture by Professor Conor Murphy on Ireland’s approach to the climate crisis on Thursday, 14th November at 1pm.

In this lecture, Professor Conor Murphy from Maynooth University will discuss the need for evidence-based policy-making in Ireland to help navigate the uncertainties of changing climate.

About Professor Conor Murphy

Professor Conor Murphy is based in the Department of Geography at Maynooth University, and plays a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of climate change through his research in hydroclimatology and historical climatology. With Ireland facing unique challenges due to its geographical and climatic characteristics, Conor emphasises the critical importance of informed climate predictions for effective adaptation strategies. With a need for evidence-based policy-making in Ireland where localised impacts of climate change can have profound effects on communities and ecosystems,  Conor aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical application, and contributes to ensuring that Ireland is equipped to navigate the uncertainties of a changing climate.

As part of the South East Science Festival, Carlow College is hosting a Fast Fashion Awareness talk and workshop with The Useless Project on Wednesday, 13th November at 11am – 1pm.

Join Carlow College lecturers, Steph Hanlon & Dr Sarah Otten, along with the dynamic duo from The Useless Project for a talk and workshop exploring climate justice, fast fashion and how you can be more sustainable in your fashion choices.

The Useless Project helps people take steps toward more sustainable living through tutorials, workshops, tips on food waste prevention, reuse, secondhand and upcycled fashion for individuals, schools or businesses.

This workshop combines education and awareness-raising to work together towards more sustainable living.  We explore climate justice and open a discussion about our favourite sustainable fashion brands in Ireland and beyond.  We will also lead you in creating a poster for your next climate rally concluding with a Q&A session with the audience
