Students who take Theology at Carlow College can choose to take a Catechetic and Teaching Placement module. Teaching is an exciting role, and this module will equip you for the workplace through a supported and supervised teaching placement in a primary or secondary school.
The two-year teaching placement module is offered to students in years three and four of the Arts and Humanities Programme. During the teaching placement modules, you will be provided with practical ‘hands-on’ experience in Primary and Post-Primary school settings, in a way that is structured and supported by Carlow College staff. The teaching placement module is designed to give student teachers’ an opportunity to gain practice in teaching, to enjoy school life and to use educational theory in a variety of teaching and learning situations.
Teaching placement helps students to engage with a broader school experience and provide you with the opportunities to develop skills in planning, implementing and evaluating through teaching. We also hold methodology workshops to help prepare student teachers for classroom teaching. These workshops include group debriefing/reflective sessions to support you throughout your placement together with your peers.
