Working Through The Pandemic

On June 15th, Minister for Higher and Further Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, published the third-level education reopening plan. You can read the department’s plan here

The COVID 19 vaccination programme is now underway and the country is now in the ‘recovery phase’ in the response to the pandemic.

Since May, the government have taken steps to reopen society and the economy as the vaccination programme continues. For more information, click here to visit the gov.ie website.

This site will be updated regularly with information on the first semester, taking into account all government guidelines and public health advice.


Returning to Campus

As we, as a third level institution, are an essential service, working on campus will become the norm for staff commencing 30th August.

From August 30th staff will be required to work on site and to request permission from their line managers to work remotely. The process for working remotely is as set out in the attached Remote Working Temporary Guidelinesyou are encouraged you to familiarise yourself with this document.  Line managers will review all roles to assess their suitability for remote working in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, an updated version of the COVID-19 Response Plan: Induction presentation is available for all staff to view here.

In order to ensure a safe working and learning environment, the College requires that a mask is worn by everyone at all times during your working day (with the exception of single-occupied offices).

We are also asking everyone to complete the Covid 19 Awareness for Employees Certificate by 10th September and to send a copy of your certificate to Martina Tuohy at mtuohy@carlowcollege.ie and PJ Lawler at pjlawler@carlowcollege.ie


COVID-19 Protective Equipment

In order to ensure a safe working and learning environment, the College requires that a mask is worn by everyone at all times (with the exception of single-occupied offices). Due to the personal
nature of masks/face coverings, the College is asking all staff to provide their own mask/face covering.

Please note that the College requires the wearing of masks and not visors. The only exceptions to this are where:

  • Where lecturers feel that delivery of a lecture is impacted by the wearing of a mask and would prefer to wear a visor for the lecture they may do so. Outside of the lecture it is mask only.
  • Where a staff member has a medical condition and cannot wear a mask, you are required to wear a visor. In this instance, you must contact HR and provide a copy of a GP/Consultant letter confirming your medical condition. HR will then issue exemption card.

Each individual office will be provided with disinfectant spray and paper towels to clean workstations, desks, and touch points.


Carlow College Human Resources

The Human Resource department has staff dedicated to working with staff that have concerns regarding COVID-19. More details are available in the updated COVID Response Plan for Carlow College.

Among the areas covered is the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is a confidential support service for all Carlow College employees who are experiencing personal and work related issues.


Staff Room

The Staff Room in Middle House is open for staff use again with a maximum occupancy of four staff at a time.

Free tea/coffee facilities are only available in the Staff Room. You can also purchase tea/coffee from the vending machines available in the Dining Hall.


College Buildings

All College buildings are open from 8.15am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday and staff are asked to use your swipe cards to enter the buildings.
