Monday 15th April, 13:45 – 15:00

In what will be the final public lecture of the current semester, visiting US Faculty Member, Professor Deborah Adelman will speak on ‘Reclaiming Representation: Contemporary native American Poetry and Music’.

This presentation will focus on contemporary Native American poets and musicians whose work counters and talks back to the  misrepresentations, untruths, and stereotypes that prevail about their nations, history, and cultures.  We will examine several poems and listen to songs that exemplify how language and cultural representation play a fundamental role in the struggle of indigenous peoples for land, treaty rights, survival and renewal.

This is a free public event however registration is required.
