Areas of Interest
Dr Murphy's main research interests are in the medieval period and she has published widely on aspects of the economic, social and ecclesiastical history of Ireland. Current research activities include writing a chapter on the medieval Irish economy for the Cambridge History of Ireland and preparing the Irish Historic Towns Atlas for Carlow. She lectures in ancient and medieval Irish and European history, local history and women’s history. She is currently the Secretary of the Group for the Study of Irish Historic Settlement.
